Extract PDF pages

Pull the pages you need out of a PDF and save them as a new file. Type the page numbers, and the rest is left behind.

How the files you choose are handled is set out in the privacy policy.

How to extract pages from a PDF

  1. Tap Choose a PDF. The page count appears under the file name.
  2. Type the pages to keep, such as 2, 5-8.
  3. Press Extract pages, then Save PDF.

Writing the page list

You typeThe new file contains
3Page 3 only
2, 5, 9Pages 2, 5 and 9
4-12Pages 4 to 12
1, 10-14, 20Page 1, then 10 to 14, then 20
8-5Pages 8, 7, 6, 5, in that order
2, 2, 2Three copies of page 2

The new file follows your list exactly, so this tool can also move a page to the front or duplicate one. Page numbers are counted from the first page of the file, which is not always the number printed on the page: a report with a cover and a contents page may print “1” on what is really page 3.

When extracting is the right tool

  • Sending one part of a long document. The two pages of a contract that need a signature, or one chapter of a manual.
  • Keeping a record. One statement page out of a year of statements.
  • Getting under an upload limit. Portals that cap a file at a few megabytes often accept the pages that matter on their own.
  • Removing private pages before sharing. Keep the pages meant for the reader and leave out the rest.

The original stays as it is

Extracting never changes the file you chose. The pages are copied into a new PDF with -pages added to the name. They are not redrawn, so text stays selectable and pictures stay sharp.

The new file is normally smaller than the original, but not always in proportion. A page that uses a large embedded font or a full-page picture brings that with it.

To take a few pages out and keep everything else, remove PDF pages is quicker, because you list only the pages to drop. To make several files at once, use split PDF. To get a page as a picture, use PDF to JPG.

Questions

How do I save one page of a PDF?

Choose the PDF, type the page number, press Extract pages and save. The new file holds that page alone.

Can I extract pages that are not next to each other?

Yes. Separate them with commas, such as 1, 4, 9. They are placed one after another in the new file.

Does extracting change my original file?

No. A new PDF is created and the original is left as it was.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. Pages are copied as they are, not turned into pictures.

Why can a protected PDF not be used?

Its pages cannot be copied into a new file while the protection is in place. Save an unprotected copy from the program that created it.
