SVG to PNG
Convert SVG to PNG at the width you choose. Lines stay sharp at any size, and the transparent background is kept.
How the files you choose are handled is set out in the privacy policy.
How to convert SVG to PNG
- Tap Choose SVG files and select one or more files.
- Choose the width of the picture. The height follows the drawing.
- Press Convert to PNG, then save the picture, or all of them as one ZIP.
Why an SVG needs converting
An SVG is a drawing described as shapes: this curve, that fill, this line of text. It has no pixels, which is why it stays sharp at any size and why it is the format logos and icons are designed in.
Plenty of places want pixels all the same. Social networks, document editors, presentation slides, email signatures, app stores and most upload forms refuse SVG and ask for PNG. Converting draws the SVG onto a grid of pixels at a size you pick.
Choosing the width
Because the drawing has no fixed size, you decide how large the PNG should be. Pick for the largest place it will be shown. A PNG can be scaled down later without harm, but not up.
| Use | Width to choose |
|---|---|
| Email signature, small web logo | 512 pixels |
| Website header, slides, documents | 1024 pixels |
| Social media profile or post, high-density screens | 2048 pixels |
| Print, large displays, further editing | 4096 pixels |
| Matching the designer's intended size exactly | The drawing's own size |
The drawing is rendered directly at the chosen width, not enlarged from a small picture, so edges are clean at every setting.
Transparency
Most logos have no background, and the PNG keeps it that way: areas the drawing does not cover are transparent. The logo can then sit on any colour. If you need a solid white background, use SVG to JPG.
Things that can differ from the original
- Fonts. If the SVG contains live text in a font your device does not have, a substitute is used and the lettering changes. Logos exported with text “converted to outlines” do not have this problem.
- Linked pictures and fonts. An SVG that refers to files elsewhere on the internet is drawn without them. Everything must be inside the file.
- Scripts and animation. These do not run. The PNG shows the drawing in its starting state.
Next steps
For a website favicon, feed the PNG to PNG to ICO, or choose the SVG there directly. To trim empty space around a logo, use crop image.
Questions
How do I convert SVG to PNG with a transparent background?
Just convert it. Areas the drawing does not cover stay transparent in the PNG.
What resolution should I choose?
The largest width it will be displayed at. 1024 pixels suits most screens. Use 2048 or 4096 for print or high-density displays.
Will the PNG be blurry?
No. The drawing is rendered at the width you choose, so edges are sharp at that size.
Why does the text look different?
The SVG uses a font your device does not have. Ask for a version with text converted to outlines, or install the font.
Can I turn a PNG back into an SVG?
Not with this site. Recreating shapes from pixels is tracing, which is a different kind of tool.
