PDF to JPG

Turn the pages of a PDF into JPG or PNG pictures. Convert every page or just the ones you need.

How the files you choose are handled is set out in the privacy policy.

How to convert a PDF to JPG

  1. Tap Choose a PDF and pick the file.
  2. Choose JPG or PNG, and how sharp the pictures should be.
  3. Leave Pages empty for the whole document, or type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 7.
  4. Press Convert to pictures. Save one page directly, or all of them as a ZIP.

Choosing the sharpness

A PDF page has no fixed number of pixels. It can be drawn at any size, and the dpi setting decides how many pixels each inch of the page becomes.

SettingAn A4 page becomesUse it for
Screen, 96 dpi794 × 1123 pixelsPreviews, chat, small files
Good, 150 dpi1240 × 1754 pixelsReading on screen, slides, most uses
Print, 300 dpi2480 × 3508 pixelsPrinting, zooming in on small text

Higher settings give larger files and take longer. 150 dpi is the best all-round choice.

JPG or PNG?

JPG gives small files and suits pages with photographs. PNG keeps text and line drawings perfectly sharp with no smudging around letters, at the cost of larger files. For a page that is mostly text you plan to zoom into, choose PNG. For anything going into a message or a slide, JPG is fine.

What it is useful for

  • Posting a page of a document where only pictures are accepted.
  • Putting a page into a slide, a document or a design.
  • Sending one page of a long PDF without sending the whole file.
  • Making a preview picture of a report or a certificate.

Good to know

  • Each page becomes one picture of the whole page. Photos embedded in the PDF are not pulled out separately.
  • Password-protected PDFs can be converted if you know the password. You are asked for it when you choose the file.
  • Text in the pictures is no longer selectable. To get editable text, use PDF to Word.
  • Very large pages are limited to about 30 million pixels each, so that phones do not run out of memory.

To go the other way, JPG to PDF combines pictures into a PDF.

Questions

Can I convert just one page?

Yes. Type the page number in the Pages box. For several, separate them with commas and use a hyphen for a range, such as 2, 5-8.

How do I save all the pages at once?

When more than one page is converted, the Save button gives you a ZIP containing every picture. Each one can also be saved on its own from the list.

Why does the text look blurry?

The sharpness is too low for how far you are zooming in. Convert again at 300 dpi, and choose PNG for the cleanest text.

Can it convert a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scanned PDF is already a picture of each page, and it converts like any other.

Does the PDF need to be unlocked?

If it needs a password to open, type it when asked. PDFs that open freely but restrict printing or copying convert without a password.
