How to convert milliliters to fluid ounces

A quick way to do it in your head
Divide the milliliters by 30.
- 90 ml: 90 ÷ 30 = 3 fl oz. The true answer is 3.04 fl oz.
- 250 ml: 250 ÷ 30 is about 8.3 fl oz. The true answer is 8.45 fl oz.
- 750 ml: 750 ÷ 30 = 25 fl oz. The true answer is 25.36 fl oz.
The shortcut runs about 1.4% low. US food labels use the same rounding: for nutrition labelling a fluid ounce is taken as exactly 30 ml.

Recipes rarely say which is meant. An American recipe means US fluid ounces. A British recipe written before metric measures took over means UK ones, and a modern British recipe will normally give milliliters.
