PNG to PDF

Turn one or more PNG pictures into a single PDF, one picture to a page, in the order you choose.

This free online PNG to PDF converter runs in your browser, with nothing to install and no account. Add multiple PNG files in bulk to turn the whole batch into one PDF. How the files you choose are handled is set out in the privacy policy.

How to convert PNG to PDF

  1. Tap Choose PNG pictures and select the files. You can add more afterwards.
  2. Put them in order with the arrow buttons. Each picture becomes one page.
  3. Choose a page size and a margin.
  4. Press Make PDF, then Save PDF or Share.

What happens to the pictures

A PDF cannot hold PNG data as it is, so each picture is stored in the PDF as a high quality JPG. The setting is high enough that small text in a screenshot stays crisp.

  • Size in pixels is kept. Nothing is scaled down.
  • Transparent areas become white. A logo or cut-out with a clear background gets a white page behind it.
  • Text stays a picture. Words in a screenshot cannot be selected or searched in the PDF.

Choosing a page size

Page sizeWhat you getUse it for
Same shape as each pictureEvery page is exactly the shape of its picture, with no white bordersReading on a screen, sharing in a chat
A4Each picture is fitted onto a standard sheet, turned sideways if the picture is widePrinting, and forms outside North America
US LetterThe same, on the standard sheet of the United States and CanadaPrinting and forms in North America

A long scrolling screenshot is kept as one tall page when the page follows the picture. On A4 or Letter it is shrunk to fit the sheet, which can make the text too small to read, so keep the first setting for those.

Screenshots that belong together

The usual reason to convert PNG to PDF is to send several screenshots as one document: the steps of a bug report, a chat that runs over a few screens, a booking confirmation, a bank transfer and its receipt.

  • Phones name screenshots by date and time, so sorting by name before you select them usually gives the right order.
  • Crop out the status bar and anything private first, with crop image.
  • If a form limits the size of the PDF, shrink the result afterwards with compress PDF.

Good to know

  • For photos saved as JPG, use JPG to PDF, which places each photo in the PDF without re-compressing it.
  • To mix PNG with other kinds of picture in one PDF, use image to PDF.
  • To turn a PDF back into pictures, use PDF to PNG.

Questions

Can I put several PNG files in one PDF?

Yes. Select them all at once or add them a few at a time. They become pages in the order shown in the list, which you can rearrange.

Does converting PNG to PDF lose quality?

Very little. Each picture is stored as a JPG at a high quality setting, at its full size in pixels. Text in screenshots stays sharp.

What happens to a transparent background?

It becomes white. A PDF page is a sheet of paper, so there is nothing for the picture to be transparent against.

Is the PDF smaller or larger than the PNG files?

It depends on the pictures. Photos and detailed screenshots take less room as JPG, so the PDF is smaller. A very plain screenshot can come out a little larger.

Can I select the text in the PDF?

No. The pages are pictures of text. To get the words out of a PDF that has real text, use the PDF to text tool.
